Statistics compiled following the United Nations Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics (UNFPOS) place the needs of public and private users at the centre of concern and pay particular attention to questions of fitness for purpose, objectivity, clarity and accessibility. Thus, official statistics are essential for evidence-based decision-making for a broad range of users, including governments (central and local), research institutions, journalists and the media, businesses, educational institutions, and the general public. This Chapter covers various users of official statistics groups, describes their specific needs, and discusses ways national statistical offices and other producers can address existing and emerging needs. The Chapter also outlines how to measure user satisfaction to constantly improve products and services from official statistics.
